Season Updates

2022 Season Info

Welcome to the TCA Soccer Program!

A big shout out to everyone who has volunteered to coach! Also thank you to everyone who has volunteered for the many other roles. Our program could not run without you!

Soccer balls and uniform kits have been ordered and we are excited for the season to start!

Key Dates:

April 23 – Season starts

May 14 – Photo day at the Tuscany Club. Specific times will be communicated at a later date.

June 25 – Season ends

Team & field assignments – You can expect to hear from your coach around the second week in April about your team and field placement. This may be an email or communication through the Team Snap App that we will use again this year for team communications, schedules, etc.

Uniforms:

Each child will receive a full uniform kit (jersey, shorts, and socks). Shin guards and non-slip athletic shoes are required. We do not recommend soccer cleats for the younger divisions. The uniforms are yours to keep and do not need to be returned at the end of the season. The registration fee also covers a soccer ball for each child to keep at the end of the season; and a medal.

Fields: Our teams play on 3 fields in the community.

Tuscany Meadows Dr – TMD (Next to the Community Garden, behind Tuscany School); Tuscany Way- TW (between Eric Harvey school and the new Fire Station construction); Tuscany Springs Blvd TSB (in Tuscarora near the LRT station).

Your child will be assigned to the one field, and will play on that field for the entire season.

Team Names – Your team name will tell you your age division; field designation; and jersey colour. For example:  U4 TMD Blue.

When you see this, you will know that your team plays on the Tuscany Meadows Dr field, and is the U4 team with the Blue jerseys

Weather Policy:

Given the nature of outdoor Spring soccer in Calgary, the weather can vary greatly from week to week.

In the event of inclement weather, the coaches will determine whether or not to cancel practice / games, and will notify you via email at least 1 hour prior to practice/game time. Soccer will be cancelled if there is lightning, heavy rain, snow on the field, or temperatures below 0C.

Wind or cool temperatures are not typically reasons for cancellation. On cool or windy days, players should dress appropriately – i.e sweat pants, long sleeve shirts, sweaters.

Team Snap:

Each team in the league will have access to the Team Snap app. I know that many of you have used this app before and it is a great tool for team communication. For those who are not familiar, it is an App that you can download to your phone or device for free. It allows the coach / manager to send out team communications, weather cancellations, RSVPs to games, etc.

Most all communication for our league is done through email, so please ensure that your email address is correct in our registration system!

Check our website throughout the season for updates and follow up on Twitter: @TuscanySoccer

If you’re a parent that’s interested in Coaching (there is no experience necessary!) please register when it opens on February 7th. The number of kids that can play is limited by the number of coaches we have. Coaching is a fantastic way to spend time with your kids, stay in shape, and meet new people in the community; plus we’ll give you a snazzy new whistle! RESPONSIBLE RETURN TO SOCCER

Our COIVID-19 protocols will always be based on up-to-date information from Alberta Health and in compliance with all advice and restrictions. Our program will be under continual review as guidelines change and will be updated depending upon current situation. We will be in touch just prior to the start of the season with protocols that will likely include physical distancing, monitoring player health with a symptom checklist, avoiding sharing equipment, water bottles, etc.

I am looking forward to a fun soccer season!

Season Updates

2021 Schedules posted

With the revised restrictions in place we are now able to play games! The schedule is posted on the Fields and Schedules page and also linked below.

The 2021 Schedule is posted here (pdf)

Many fields and age groups have only two teams and therefore a standing game against the other teams. These are not shown on the schedule for simplicity.

Season Updates

Changes to Outdoor Soccer

Starting immediately community soccer is paused for three weeks in compliance with the revised restrictions on outdoor sports. While these restrictions technically come into effect at 12:01am on Sunday May 9th we are being cautious and proactive to protect the health and safety of our community.

As per the announcement:

Outdoor Activities

  • All outdoor sports and recreation activities are prohibited, except with members of your household, or your two close contacts if you live alone. This includes:

While I am optimistic and look forward to resuming soccer later this season, I also recognize that the situation is fluid and may change. I will send out additional updates as the situation evolves.

Thanks again to all of our amazing volunteers who put in extra time and effort so far this season, I really appreciate everything.

Season Updates

COVID-19 Protocols

Hi Everyone,

After yesterday’s announcement by the provincial government I’ve received a few questions by email.

We are able to go ahead with the season and our start date of April 24 (weather permitting!) Soccer will look different than it has in the past, but I know that the kids will still have lots of fun. I hope that by May things will ease and we can get some games in.

Key parts of the protocol are:
– No games between different teams
– No scrimmage games within teams
– All players must remain 2m from each other
– Maximum of 10 people (including players and coaches) on the field at one time.

We are a recreational league focused on younger kids, and the main goals have always been to encourage youth to be outdoors, improve physical literacy, and have a chance to chance to be physically active with their peers. If you’ve ever watched U4 you know that they occasionally use a soccer ball too! While the conditions this year aren’t ideal I am confident that we can still have a fun, active season.

You can find the full details on our COVID-19 protocols on the website here http://soccer.tuscanyca.org/covid-19/

Thanks,
Jamie

RESPONSIBLE RETURN TO SOCCER

Like you, we are excited to return to soccer and the game we love. However, each of us must begin our return to play thoughtfully. The soccer community has the responsibility to protect ourselves and our participants from Covid-19 by promoting the practice of good hygiene, physical distancing and monitoring for symptoms throughout our programming and activities.

The COVID-19 pandemic is an ongoing and rapidly developing situation. We encourage our membership to monitor publicly available information and to always follow federal, provincial and local health organization guidance and government mandates.

I am looking forward to a fun soccer season!

2020 Soccer Season Canceled

The final score is 1-0 for COVID19 vs 2020 Soccer

You may have heard that The City of Calgary has recently cancelled all playing field permits through June 30th. This means that we will need to cancel our 2020 community soccer program.

Thank you to everyone that volunteered to coach or manage a team, to help with equipment, or in one of the many other roles. I know that we were all very much looking forward to getting out, enjoying some Spring weather, spending time with friends and neighbours, and most of all letting the kids run off some energy.

We are working with our registration and third-party payment processor and will be able to automatically refund your soccer registration (minus the processing costs) to the credit card that was used when you registered. It will likely be end of of next week before we can process these, and then another 7-10 days for the refund to show up on your statements. I greatly appreciate your patience and understanding while we process 900+ refunds.

You may remember that you also paid a $25 TCA when you signed up. This fee helps cover administrative costs and as well as support other community initiatives and programming that the Community Association provides including the Harvest Festival, Youth Council, Community Garden, and more.

The CA is volunteer run non-profit society and the loss of soccer revenue this year will be challenging for us; being able to retain the membership fees would help substantially. We know that many families in Tuscany are also going through challenging times so if you would like a refund of your $25 membership (less processing fees) please let me know.

We are disappointed and frustrated that the kids will not have a chance to play community soccer this year, and we also recognize that this move by the City is necessary to protect the health and safety of all Calgarians.

Thanks again for your patience and understanding, I hope to see you for the 2021 season.

Thanks,
Jamie
